What we learned from EXCHAINGE 2019
The 7th International Supply Chain Summit EXCHAiNGE brought us not only exciting discussions with industry experts but also an award winner with whom we have a close partnership. Our co-founder Alexander Hüttenbrink congratulates our partner and shares his takeaways.
Another eventful week comes to a close. While I now look forward to spending the next few days with our US colleagues at our Chicago site, this week’s highlight for me has undoubtedly been the 7th International Supply Chain Summit EXCHAiNGE at Hypermotion in Frankfurt am Main.
In Frankfurt, I participated in an exciting forum discussion at the EXCHAiNGE Forum/Hypermotion Conference, whose topic was “Ecosystems & Networks in the Supply Chainers’ Community: What makes collaborations stable and successful?”
One aspect of the discussions I was very pleased with was the general consensus on how valuable and beneficial the growing collaboration between start-ups and established corporations is.
We need incentives for innovation on the one hand, honesty and clarity on the other!
I strongly believe that companies should create more incentives for innovation and collaboration with start-ups. In return, honesty and clarity should be expected from start-ups. To my mind, this is the only working recipe for successful long-term collaboration.
KINEXON Industries with its over 180 employees and over 300 IIoT projects in 12 countries is no longer considered a classic young start-up. Even so, we have not grown out of these shoes and still maintain a start-up mentality.
Based on our experience at KINEXON Industries over the past four years, I can say that the most successful projects have always been the ones where companies have put us and our technology to the test with a bold vision — and we have not only taken on the challenge but always communicated our level of development and development planning honestly and clearly.
As fate would have it, one of the latest success stories we helped create was honored at this year’s EXCHAiNGE. The automotive supplier Continental — a partner and user of our IIoT technology since this year — won the Supply Chain Management Award 2019.
Jury member Harald Geimer (partner at PwC Management Consulting) praised Continental for being “a pioneer in areas such as the use of geolocation and geofencing, cobots and AGVs, as well as the development of key enablers such as cloud systems.”
Bold visions are the best incentive for innovation — “Conti” leads the way
With our IIoT developments and references in real-time locating (RTLS) and real-time IoT (RIoT) software as well as AGV navigation and process mining, we fulfilled Continental’s requirements in implementing several process automation applications in their model production facilities in Regensburg and Zvolen.
Projects like these are not as straightforward as performing a simple tooth extraction at the dentist’s office, but more akin to doing a full reconstruction of the mouth. Having tasked us with implementing its ambitious vision of a fully automated end-to-end material flow, Continental propelled us to new heights in innovation.
Therefore, I believe that the Supply Chain Management Award 2019 is fully deserved not solely on the merits of an extraordinary project. In my view, a broader reason the award has gone to the right recipient is that Continental sets the perfect example of a successful collaboration between a company and an external technology provider: By pursuing a strong vision through a clear and honest partnership.
My colleagues and I will proudly continue to assist and support Continental in realizing its vision, and we congratulate them on this award!
