Savino Del Bene Scandicci Volleyball Selected as Third KINEXON and AWS Flagship Team
Savino Del Bene Scandicci is among Italy’s best women’s volleyball teams and competes on an international level, in the highest European competitions. Alongside other teams and clubs from different parts of the world in various sports like Florida State University, Viktoria Berlin and TSG Hoffenheim, the team is joining forces with KINEXON and AWS and embrace technology with clear goals in mind. Let’s dive in.
“After a decade in Italy’s top volleyball league, we’ve learned and realized that individualized training and player assessment enhances team performance tremendously. Using KINEXON’s player tracking technology, we’re able to manage our athletes’ workloads and monitor stress and recovery accurately. Collecting and analyzing real-time player tracking data has become a fundamental tool for our coaches and physiotherapists, as they rely on it to prevent injuries and overuse and guide our athletes to reach peak performance when it matters most – in the competition.”
To do so, the club is using KINEXON’s PERFORM IMU technology, an easily portable mobile tracking solution, which does not require any wired installation. It offers seamless usability anytime, anywhere, coupled with direct integration into AWS’s cloud services.
The solution delivers valuable live jump metrics and various performance insights, crucial for volleyball. Coaches can swiftly analyze real-time metrics and visualizations on the sideline, facilitating immediate personnel and tactical decisions.

Savino Del Bene Scandicci’s Role in the Initiative Women’s Sports Analytics Powered by AWS
Much has been written in the meantime about KINEXON’s and AWS’s joint initiative and the approach to tailor player tracking and analytics products to women’s requirements. With Savino Del Bene Scandicci the two leading providers of live sports data and analysis expand the circle of teams and sports, which actively participate in changing women’s sports.
With this partnership and Savino Del Bene Scandicci being the first Italian volleyball team to introduce player tracking technology, KINEXON and AWS hope to inspire and motivate other women’s volleyball teams to adopt innovative technologies and solutions that can help them grow and compete at the highest level. All three are sure that data can never fully replace subjective impressions and years of experience in coaching, but it can indeed be an objective indicator and signpost for coaches to backup feelings or put them in perspective.
It’s also not only a push for the volleyball world, but within the joint initiative also one for more equality for women in sports tech.
About the Team
After finishing second in last year’s Italian Serie A, Savino Del Bene Scandicci competes in this year’s CEV Champions League – the top official competition for women’s volleyball across Europe.
The team features many talented players, some of them among the best in the world, such as the Chinese outside hitter Zhu Ting, who was voted as the MVP of the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2019 FIVB World Cup. She joined Savino Del Bene Scandicci in 2022 and has been a key player for the team ever since. Or Maja Ognjenović, a Serbian setter, who is known for her excellent technique, vision, and leadership. Ognjenović has won a total of 17 podiums from major world-level or continental-level competitions (Olympic Games, World Championship and European Championship) with the women’s national team.
The introduction of KINEXON PERFORM IMU at the Italian club will benefit all of them – including the coaching staff.
About the Women's Sports Initiative at KINEXON
A large part of sports-scientific studies, hence, the foundation of sports-scientific training planning and sports technology, is based on men. Consequently, women and men are treated equally, despite specific demands often being blatantly obvious.
KINEXON and AWS challenge this status quo. Both companies are among the leading providers of live sports data analysis and are convinced teams have enormous potential, which they can realize through pointed, women-specific load management.
