KINEXON presents first match-ready tracking ball

Only a few weeks ago, Derbystar/SELECT announced that the Super Brillant iBall”, which was developed together with KINEXON, had received FIFA Quality Pro certification and was therefore approved for use in official matches with immediate effect.

The ball has already been used by several professional football clubs for live training analysis.

Ball tracking provides exclusive data and enables elaborate visualizations in real time

With FIFA Quality Pro certification, leagues and subsequently media, sponsors and fans now have access to live ball data for the first time.

The technology not only opens up new live information on ball speed, pass lengths, passing routes, ball wins, etc., but thanks to the low latency of only 20 ms, also enables live overlays, augmented reality and completely new fan experiences — at home and in the stadium.

We see ball tracking as the final piece of the puzzle’ of live data collection.”

Maximilian Schmidt (CRO & Global Sports Lead, KINEXON)

We knew that the interest in ball tracking is immense. However, the fact that we got to talk to so many international representatives from a wide range of leagues — including other sports — was fabulous.”

The most frequently asked questions about ball tracking briefly answered

1. What is needed for live ball tracking?

The venue must be equipped with a Location Position System (LPS) from KINEXON. In addition, a ball with an integrated tracking sensor from KINEXON must be used. Currently, for example, the Super Brillant iBall” from Derbystar/SELECT is equipped with this. Thanks to FIFA Quality Pro certification, it can also be used in official matches.

All information on the technology, areas of application, references and more can be found in our current product brochure.

2. How can the tracking ball be used in training?

Tactics-relevant data on counters, space allocation, ball wins/losses are available live. Player data can be evaluated in the context of the game situation for the first time. Manual steps of video analyses are also automated, which saves time. One team that used ball tracking in training and shared experiences is Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

3. How can ball data be used for fan engagement and live broadcasting?

With ball tracking, the entire action on the pitch can be digitised live. For marketing, exclusive content is available in real time, but also new possibilities for live experience, fan engagement and marketing, which until now could only be implemented with technical delays.

At the end of May, ball tracking from KINEXON will be used in the relegation playoffs of Liga Portugal bwin. Sign up for our mailing list to receive insights on this topic!
