Kinexon technology used at NHL Scouting Combine
Exciting times in Buffalo (USA): Last week the NHL Scouting Combine 2018 took place and 104 participants were about to leave a good impression with the representatives of all 31 NHL teams.
Apart from medical examinations and interviews, there were 12 physical tests, trying the participants’ balance, functional movements, strength, performance, endurance and agility. KINEXON provided insights at the agility test, the so called “shuttle run”. Athletes were tracked doing a 5−10−5 drill on a hard court located in the hockey rink.
Paul Robbins (Vice President Sports Performance, KINEXON): “After each session KINEXON provided the NHL with the acceleration and deceleration metrics out of the two changes of direction and from the start. We gave the NHL the max speed for each run of the athletes during each athlete’s drill.”
The data was for NHL staff only but was shown live on the NHL network. It was used as part of the evaluation of the athletes for the upcoming NHL draft.
Apart from providing our technology for the combine, the NHL team Pittsburgh Penguins is already using our hockey analytics solution in their daily work. You can find out more details about this cooperation soon here on our blog.
